CONTEXT: On September 12, 2026, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei posted a 3,800-word essay calling for the AI industry to "slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI models." In an exclusive interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper, Cooper asked Amodei: "Do you earnestly believe that AI could kill all humans?" This followed the resignation of Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon, who posted on X: "The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt... I hear the same people express fear privately. No other human activity poses this level of danger."
