Grab the Popcorn: The Left Is Big Mad Over What Jasmine Crockett Just Said About James Talarico

I think it's clear that Rep. Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) was not a happy camper after she lost the Democrat primary to state Rep. James Talarico.

Crockett did endorse him immediately after she lost. But she's been upset when people have asked why she wasn't going out and stumping for him. She's also questioned his support with black voters. She may be doing that with good reason, as Talarico got called out by a black voter at a town hall who voiced that same issue.

Crockett just made another comment to a reporter that the left is losing their minds over.

NBC reporter Sahil Kapur asked Jasmine Crockett, who was in St. Louis, if she thinks James Talarico can turn Texas blue this fall.

[Sahil Kapur tweet: "I don't know," she said. She doesn't buy the polls, saying they've historically overstated Democrats' prospects in Texas. "I watch money." "When I look at the money, if Republicans start spending money in Texas, then I'll be convinced. But right now, national Republicans decided they wanted to dump money into North Carolina, as well as Georgia. That's where they're fighting, and national Democrats have not decided to dump money into Texas either. I look at: where does the NRSC stand? Where does DSCC stand? Right now, neither one are investing, which tells me that their internals are saying the same thing. So it looks like status quo. I won't get on the ground to really start to feel it until maybe end of September, October, as I start to dig into which races I'm going to help out in, the races that I really feel like we can win."]

She's right that polls in Texas have generally tended to overestimate Democrats' chances in Texas, which always has led to Democrat spending and then losing anyway in Senate races.

Now, leaving aside the question of whether what she's saying about the spending is true, she's essentially throwing Talarico under the bus, sounding as though she's saying neither Republican nor Democrat Senate money folks think he can win. And then that last sentence is really something -- that she's going to be helping in races that she feels "like we can win."

What the Senate Committees on both sides have done, as we can see here and here, is form joint fundraising committees with their candidates.

Talarico faces a challenge in Texas, especially given radical prior statements he has made.

It was also an interesting message that, instead of campaigning with Talarico, she was in St. Louis for a primary-night party for Democrat Rep. Wesley Bell (MO-01), who (again) beat socialist Cori Bush.
