Nepal and China both warned on Thursday (August 27, 2026) of fresh risks of flooding in the Himalayas as two lakes that have developed on either side of their border threaten to burst in a region still grappling with this week's catastrophic flood.

Death toll due to the devastating floods on the Nepal-Tibet border has reached at least 392, on Thursday, as rescuers raced against time to trace hundreds of people still missing, including 290 Indian nationals. Of the 392 victims, 389 died in the flash floods in Nepal, while three were killed in neighbouring Tibet, reports PTI.

At least 288 Indians remain missing and around 200 others are stranded on the Chinese side following devastating flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border, with New Delhi in constant contact with authorities in both nations to coordinate their rescue, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday (August 27, 2026). MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Twenty-one Indians from Tamil Nadu were rescued.
