Trump admin's 'economic D-Day' to hammer Iran with new sanctions

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is expected to unveil massive economic sanctions targeting Iran on Monday as the regime in Tehran continues to threaten shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. 'This is economic asphyxiation of this regime,' Scott Bessent said. 'At dawn begins an economic D-Day — the single greatest financial offensive ever marshalled against an adversary,' Bessent wrote in a Financial Times op-ed. 'Iran now faces a very clear choice, with only two paths before them. Complete global isolation and a subsistence economy, or a path back to normalcy with an opportunity to rejoin the global economy. Today, we are launching Operation Economic Outcasts to foreclose every other option available to the Iranian regime.'
