Linda McMahon: Parents Should Have 'Every Right' to Opt Out of AI Teaching

Breitbart (carrying CNN's State of the Union) · back to the audit
Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union," Education Secretary Linda McMahon discussed the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the K-12 classroom.

After citing examples where AI has shown success, including the Alpha School in Austin, TX, CNN host Dana Bash asked whether parents should be able to decide whether their children are taught by AI.

According to McMahon, parents should have the option to choose something different.

"[T]hat's what going to be one of my questions -- which is, do you believe parents should be able to opt out of using AI as a teaching tool if they so choose?" Bash asked.

McMahon replied, "I certainly think that parents should be very much involved in their children's education. If they're going and they're involved and they are looking to see what is happening with their child, I think it's up to the school to be able to show, OK, this is what we hope to accomplish, this is how we believe this is going to be helpful to your child in particular, and let us show you the outcome."

"And if the parent is not seeing that outcome, the parent has every right to go in and say, 'No, I want something different for my child,'" she added.
