Senate Dems press Duffy on 'Great American Road Trip'

The Hill · back to the audit
Senate Democrats pressed Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy on Tuesday about a cross-country road trip he recently took with his family and filmed for an upcoming reality TV-style series commemorating the nation's 250th anniversary.
"It doesn't smell right," Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) told Duffy during a Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing on the Department of Transportation's (DOT) fiscal 2027 budget request. "I think it's wrong, and I think you should explain to the American people why you should spend your time and why you should be getting a vacation that is paid for by companies that you regulate," she added.
Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) criticized the corporate sponsorships and said that "Americans don't have corporate sponsors to pay for their gas" amid higher prices sparked by the war in Iran.
