Ecuador's intelligence chief and five Americans killed in Kenya helicopter crash: The director general of Ecuador's intelligence agency (CIES), Michele Sensi-Contugi, was among seven dead as a result of a helicopter crash in central Kenya, officials said on Wednesday. The U.S. State Department confirmed five Americans were among the dead, including a Telemundo executive and a Miami restauranteur. The aircraft, carrying guests from the luxury tour operator &Beyond, crashed in the foothills of Mount Ololokwe in Samburu County. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Sensi-Contugi, 42, appointed to lead Ecuador's National Intelligence Center in 2024, was a close associate of right-wing President Daniel Noboa, a key U.S. partner in Washington's militarized anti-cartel push. He and the CIES "served as architects of the political lawfare, police state, and brutal crackdown against journalists, indigenous members of the 2025 General Strike… and leftwing figures," Drop Site contributor Camila Lourdes Galarza writes.
