FBI Seizes Former Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell's Devices As Part Of Criminal Probe

HuffPost · back to the audit
Federal agents seized electronic devices belonging to former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) over the weekend as part of an ongoing criminal probe, multiple outlets reported. According to CBS News, Swalwell was served Saturday with a search warrant for his cellphone at San Francisco International Airport, and agents on Sunday searched his Washington, D.C., home for other devices. The Daily Mail first reported the search. Lawyers for Swalwell did not immediately respond to HuffPost's request for comment. The FBI declined to comment. The searches come just months after Swalwell dropped his gubernatorial bid and resigned from Congress following sexual assault and misconduct allegations. In April, The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Swalwell had allegedly sexually assaulted a woman twice, including when she worked for him. CNN also reported three other women alleged various kinds of sexual misconduct, including Swalwell sending them unsolicited explicit messages or nude photos. Swalwell at the time acknowledged making "mistakes in judgment" but denied any of the encounters were nonconsensual and called the assault allegation false.
