Lindsay Clancy murder trial: Expert says crisis line rejected her over 'no plan'

Lindsay Clancy's defense expert testified Wednesday that she repeatedly sought help in the weeks before she killed her three children, including calling a suicide hotline that turned her away because she did not have a plan to harm herself. The testimony is central to the defense's argument that Lindsay Clancy was suffering from postpartum psychosis and is not criminally responsible. The judge is also weighing whether a former McLean Hospital employee will be allowed to testify.

A suicide hotline turned Lindsay Clancy away because she did not have a "plan" to kill herself, a psychologist testified Wednesday. Dr. Paul Zeizel told jurors Clancy called a crisis line on Dec. 4, 2022, weeks before she killed her three children, and was told she did not meet the standard of care because she had no plan. He said she called again days later and again received no help.

"She really loves them and misses them and thinks of them every single day," Zeizel said.

Judge Sullivan ended court early Wednesday: "Due to some an unforeseen circumstance. We're going to, excuse you until tomorrow morning. This is, not something we saw coming, but you're not to speculate about what it is. You're not to hold it against either side. it's just something that we have to deal with. All right. And so I'm going to excuse you until tomorrow morning," Sullivan said.

The prosecution is expected to call three rebuttal witnesses.
