Trump says no Iran talks planned, claims Hormuz 'new US territory'
U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that no talks with Iran are underway or scheduled, as he posted a map showing the Strait of Hormuz as a new American territory.
Trump's Truth Social post, as quoted by AFP: "There are no talks or conversations going on, or scheduled, with the Islamic Republic of Iran." "The Hormuz Strait is open and operating. All water mines have been removed or detonated."
Ghalibaf, as quoted by AFP (span truncated at the fetch cap): "I want to state clearly that the Strait of Hormuz will not be opened until the American commitments..."
AFP context: U.S. sources described "positive" discussions with Iranians but said Trump "decided to wait" and told his team not to engage until Iran was ready to deal; AFP noted Trump's prior annexation threats (Canada, Greenland, Cuba, Gaza); Iran's conditions to reopen include ending the U.S. blockade, lifting oil sanctions, freeing frozen assets, and paying war damages; Kushner said Trump "is going to be very patient ... he doesn't want to rush to a deal"; Trump threatened to "bomb the shit" out of Oman over interference; Qatar said an Iran-Oman strait agreement would ease resuming negotiations.
