Zambia Ties Shootout at Opposition Leader's Home to Alleged Plot
Zambian security forces raided the home of the main opposition leader on the day of the presidential election, arresting 11 people after a shootout in what the authorities described as an investigation into an alleged plot involving foreigners. The government's acknowledgement of the incident in a statement early on Monday was its first confirmation of the events that opposition leader Brian Mundubile made public two days earlier. Mundubile is the main challenger to President Hakainde Hichilema, who's built a commanding lead in the results published so far from the Aug. 13 vote.
