U.S. [Central Command](https://www.foxnews.com/category/us/military) (CENTCOM) on Thursday pushed back on reports about conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln during its deployment to the Middle East, denying claims that sailors had died in a brawl or that the carrier had experienced a spike in suicidal ideation.
“CLAIM: Over the past 48 hours, multiple media outlets have reported several false claims related to USS Abraham Lincoln's (CVN 72) deployment to the Middle East,” CENTCOM said in a statement. “One report alleged seven Sailors died in a brawl aboard the aircraft carrier and others have recently suggested a spike in suicidal ideations.”
"These reports are FALSE," CENTCOM said.
The command pointed to the carrier's crew reenlistment rate, saying the USS Abraham Lincoln has "maintained among the highest crew reenlistment rates (84.4%) of all aircraft carriers in the U.S. Navy."
“The Sailors and Marines of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group remain resilient and resolved after more than 260 days at sea, 10,000 aircraft flights, and 1.5 million pounds of ordnance expended,” CENTCOM said.
"No service members aboard the aircraft carrier have died, and the one Sailor who fell overboard Aug. 3 was quickly and safely recovered," the statement continued. "The rampant misreporting on Abraham Lincoln's historic deployment is a disservice to our men and women in uniform and their loved ones."
Secretary of War [Pete Hegseth](https://www.foxnews.com/category/person/pete-hegseth) also addressed reports about conditions aboard the aircraft carrier Thursday, saying they had been "completely misrepresented."
"We make sure every ship, every crew, every captain has everything we can provide them at every single moment," Hegseth told reporters during a visit to Panama. "Some deployments are longer than others, and I have more respect and gratitude for those sailors than anybody. What they do in those high seas in those austere conditions with less port calls, it's incredible."

Government Accountability Institute President Peter Schweizer said Thursday that he believes Iran is unlikely to surrender to the United States and argued that Washington should seek to "precipitate the collapse of the [Iranian regime](https://www.foxnews.com/category/politics/defense/wars/war-with-iran)."
"\[Iran\] had an opportunity to negotiate a deal, and they walked away from it," Schweizer said on "Life, Liberty & Levin." "What they are concerned about is their own survival as a regime. They're not concerned about the people around them."
"The prospects going forward are for the United States to essentially precipitate the collapse of the Iranian regime," he continued.
Schweizer stressed that he was not calling for [U.S. troops](https://www.foxnews.com/category/us/military) to be deployed on the ground in Iran.
"I don't think it should involve boots on the ground," he said. "I think this is something that could be handled internally in Iran."
Schweizer argued that he does not believe the Iranian government will fundamentally change its position toward the United States.
"This is not a regime that is going to at some point say, 'Guess what, we were wrong or we were on the wrong path, the Americans aren't so bad.' That is not going to change," Schweizer said. "So we need to expect that this is gonna come to a head."

"Watch this space for more announcements coming next week because we are going to apply measures like have never been seen in the history of economic isolation on a country," Bessent said during an interview on Newsmax.
Bessent said the administration's strategy would combine further [economic pressure](https://www.foxnews.com/world/tehran-turn-kinetic-tool-break-us-economic-containment-analyst-warns) with the ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
"It will be a combination of economic isolation like the world has never seen before, and the continued blockade in the Strait of Hormuz that will keep anything from going in or out of the Iranian ports," he said.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Thursday that Iran is attempting to hold the global economy "hostage" but argued that Tehran is pursuing a " [losing strategy.](https://www.foxnews.com/category/politics/defense/wars/war-with-iran)"
During an interview with Fox News' Bret Baier, Wright said Iran is causing [economic difficulties](https://www.foxnews.com/category/us/economy) in the region but predicted its ability to disrupt global markets will continue to diminish.
"Look, Iran is attempting to hold the world economy hostage and to terrorize their neighbors," Wright said. "They've built up a giant arsenal. So are they causing difficulties in the region? Absolutely. But they have a losing strategy at the end that will lead to the collapse of this regime in Iran as their economy gets strangled."
"But are they causing some difficulties for their neighbors and the world economy? Absolutely," he continued. "But their ability to cause difficulties are declining. Our ability to escort and bring products out of that region is growing."
Wright's comments came after President [Donald Trump](https://www.foxnews.com/category/person/donald-trump) said Wednesday that the U.S. is in "total control" of the Strait of Hormuz.
The energy secretary said an average of 8 million to 9 million barrels of oil per day are currently moving through the strait.
Wright also expressed optimism about gas prices, which he said are hovering around a nationwide average of $4 per gallon.
The Trump administration's goal is to bring the national average down to $3 per gallon, according to Wright.
"The question is just the timing of that," he said.
