Karoline Leavitt Leaving White House, No Replacement Named

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is departing the Trump administration at the end of August, and a replacement has not yet been named. President Donald Trump announced Leavitt's unexpected forthcoming departure on Wednesday in a post on Truth Social: "Our wonderful White House Press Secretary, and one of my most trusted aides, Karoline Leavitt, will be departing her role at the end of the month so she can spend more time with her beautiful young children and family, a decision I totally understand and respect! Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors, and an influential voice within the Republican Party, as we work to defy History, and conclusively win the Midterm Elections." Trump called Leavitt "one of the best White House Press Secretaries in the History of the Office." Leavitt said serving as the press secretary under Trump "has been the honor and adventure of a lifetime" in a lengthy post on X. Leavitt entered the post on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2025, and became the youngest White House press secretary in history at 27 years old. She was also the national press secretary for Trump throughout his 2024 campaign. No White House aides briefed the press during Leavitt's maternity leave. Instead, top administration officials, like Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, took turns giving briefings.
