Lauren Boebert's son faces felony charges over sex tape with 17-year-old, court records show

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert's son was arrested over the weekend on three felony charges related to sexual exploitation of a child in connection with a 43-second video he created in which he had sex with a 17-year-old girl when he was 18, sheriff's investigators allege. Tyler Boebert, 21, of New Castle, was arrested Sunday and released from the county's jail that day after posting $10,000 bail, according to the Garfield County Sheriff's Office. The charges stem from a video that investigators allege Tyler Boebert filmed of himself having sex with a girl he was dating in February 2024, according to an arrest affidavit. The girl was weeks away from turning 18, according to the heavily redacted affidavit, and she reported the existence of the video to Silt police shortly after it was made. The video was later posted on an anonymous Instagram account along with other videos depicting child sexual abuse material, according to the affidavit. The document indicates that at least six other people, including at least four juveniles, may have committed crimes in connection with the material published on the Instagram account; all of their names were redacted in a 50-page affidavit released Monday. "I love my son," Congresswoman Boebert said in a statement Monday. "We take these allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time." Tyler Boebert's criminal charges include sexual exploitation of a child and child exploitation with intent to "deal in, sell or distribute... any sexually exploitative material," as well as a third charge that relates to videotaped material. Tyler Boebert also faces two felony counts for contributing to the delinquency of a minor in connection with the video.
