German national security council meets on explosive drone find

AFP (via Peninsula Qatar) · back to the audit
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz convened the national security council Friday to discuss the discovery of an explosives-laden drone near a Ukrainian cargo plane and the mid-air collision of another aircraft with an unidentified object this week.

Dobrindt called the incident "a hybrid attack" that spelled "a new level of danger".

Dobrindt said a "foreign power" may have been involved.

Prosecutors: the drone was equipped with "professional explosives and a detonator"; it did not explode only because "the detonator was defective".

Prosecutors: it was "a serious attack on Germany's transport and logistics infrastructure" that could have "threatened Germany's external and internal security".

Greens leader Katharina Droege: it "could be an act of Russian state terrorism".

The aircraft landed with "minor damage".

Berlin has not publicly blamed anyone.
