Huge quake hits west Colombia, killing at least 73 people and collapsing buildings

The Times of Israel · back to the audit
A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, killing at least 73 people.
The epicenter was in San Jose Del Palmar, a community of about 4,800 people in the Choco region, roughly 250 miles (400 km) west of Bogota, at a depth of about 66 miles (107 km).
President Abelardo de la Espriella: "You are not alone. The state is present and taking action."
Cali taxi driver Jorge Moncayo: "My entire house shook. I've never lived through such a powerful earthquake."
Colombia's Geological Service said it was "the highest magnitude earthquake registered in Colombia in the last decade."
The quake comes weeks after twin quakes killed more than 5,000 in Venezuela.
