Ukraine: WHO warehouse holding frontline medical supplies struck twice in 24 hours

A WHO humanitarian warehouse in Dnipro, Ukraine, has been struck twice in less than 24 hours. The warehouse held emergency health supplies bound for frontline health facilities. Everything was destroyed. No casualties were reported.

The site was first hit on 3 August, after which WHO assessed it as unsafe and began moving supplies out. A WHO staff member and several drivers had just left the site on 7 August, when it was struck again, destroying WHO supplies directly. Hours later, a third strike destroyed the building.

In total, teams had managed to move 130 of roughly 300 pallets to another location before the site was destroyed. WHO is still assessing the full damage. Before the attacks, the warehouse held supplies worth an estimated US$ 500 000.

"This warehouse held supplies that were intended to keep life-saving services available on the frontline," said Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe. "Its destruction means less medicine, less equipment and less capacity to treat the sick and wounded. These attacks must stop now."
