CDC warns of Salmonella outbreak linked to jalapeños

A salmonella outbreak that has sickened 345 people across 27 states has been linked to jalapeno peppers, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported Wednesday. There have been 36 hospitalizations and no reported deaths so far, the CDC said. Traceback information found that the affected jalapenos came from Sinaloa, Mexico and were distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors. The news of the outbreak pushed Chipotle and Qdoba to stop serving the peppers. The CDC stated that the two chains are not a risk to consumers at this time, the Food and Drug Administration is working to trace whether affected products were sent to grocery stores. This outbreak comes amid a separate salmonella outbreak linked to white and cage-free brown eggs. It has affected 17 states, with 98 reported illnesses and 26 hospitalizations. By Claire Leibowitz.
