Representative Max Miller's path to reelection grew more complicated after a key Ohio deadline passed, effectively locking the embattled Republican congressman onto the November ballot even as calls for his resignation mount within his own party.

Miller, who represents Ohio's 7th Congressional District, has faced intensifying scrutiny over domestic abuse allegations made by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, which he has repeatedly denied.

Despite pressure from prominent Republicans and concerns about the party's chances of holding the seat, Miller declined to withdraw before the deadline that would have allowed state Republicans to replace him with another nominee. Under Ohio election law, Republicans had only a narrow window to replace Miller on the ballot if he stepped aside. Local party officials would have needed at least two days' notice before meeting to select a replacement candidate, meaning Miller effectively needed to withdraw by Saturday. By remaining in the race, he left GOP leaders with little practical opportunity to nominate an alternative candidate before the state's replacement deadline.

With the replacement window effectively closed, Republicans now face a difficult reality: barring an unexpected withdrawal, Miller appears set to remain the GOP nominee in a race that party strategists increasingly view as a potential threat to their efforts to protect the House majority.
