US, Iran say Strait of Hormuz deal close

Fox News · back to the audit
Both the U.S. and Iran say they are nearing a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz this week.

The Trump administration is expected to reject any agreement requiring commercial vessels to pay transit fees.

President Donald Trump's blockade on Iranian ports remains in effect, and its removal may be the key to any deal with Iran.

Iran would oversee ships entering the Strait of Hormuz while Oman would manage departing vessels.

Tehran, however, has asserted that the strait will never again return to its pre-war status, implying that it expects further power over the waterway.

"I think we're doing very well... I'm involved in the negotiation. I think we're doing fine. It could be. It could be soon," Trump said.
