Phone-Throwing, Postponed Bills: DNC Chair Reportedly Under Pressure Ahead Of Midterms

Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin is facing mounting stress as the organization struggles with significant financial and organizational challenges ahead of the 2026 midterms.

The DNC chair is contending with $2 million in debt, high electoral expectations, and a diminishing circle of supporters. According to reporting, these mounting tensions have manifested in workplace incidents.

A New York Times story detailed an incident where Martin allegedly threw his phone "in a pique of frustration" earlier this month. While multiple sources were aware of the occurrence, none directly witnessed it, and there was disagreement about the intensity of the action. The incident prompted a formal HR complaint.

During a May staff meeting, Martin reportedly expressed frustration about information leaks, stating: "It pisses me off when I see leaks out of this building. No more of that shit." He has not held a staff-wide meeting since.

The organization faces severe cash flow problems. The DNC has reportedly requested that vendors delay billing until after November elections and informed congressional leaders it cannot transfer funds to support down-ballot Democratic campaigns as it has historically done.
