Benson Lead Cut to 2% vs James
LANSING, Mich. -- Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, the likely Democratic nominee who is a progressive candidate endorsed by US Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) and US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), is now tied at 45% with former Michigan Congressman Mike Rogers in the race for the United States Senate in Michigan. This recent polling shows a drop in support for El-Sayed since a June 11-13 poll by Mitchell Research which showed El-Sayed leading by five percent (47%-42%). In the race for governor, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson's lead over Congressman John James, the likely GOP nominee, has also dropped to only two percent (46%-44%), according to a statewide poll of N=672 likely voters in the November General Election conducted by Mitchell Research & Communications, Inc., July 28-29, 2026. The survey has a margin of error of + or - 3.77% at the 95% level of confidence.
In terms of the US Senate race, El-Sayed's support has decreased since the June 11-13 survey.
The reason El-Sayed is doing better against Rogers than Stevens is because El-Sayed (85%) has done a better job with Democrats than Stevens (77%).
Rogers (91%-4%) has consolidated the Republican vote better than El-Sayed has consolidated the Democratic vote (85%-5%).
Independents are divided almost equally, with Rogers leading by one percent (43%-42%).
