Max Miller exits the congressional race in Ohio immediately, and President Trump has expressed a similar sentiment behind closed doors, multiple U.S. officials familiar with the matter tell CBS News. Trump called Miller on Monday and raised concerns about his reelection bid after allegations surfaced that Miller assaulted his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, and their 2-year-old daughter, per two sources familiar with the call. Miller denied the allegations and told the president he won't leave the race. He faced a 4 p.m. Wednesday deadline to withdraw so Republicans could replace him on the November ballot; Semafor first reported the private White House sentiment. On Tuesday morning, Miller said on X he would file his own paperwork for a House ethics investigation, writing: "I have absolutely nothing to hide." In an earlier statement, he said: "I will not validate false claims by removing myself just to please the court of public opinion." Trump publicly called Miller "a very good person" and said he'd let the families resolve it. Emily Moreno is the daughter of Ohio GOP Sen. Bernie Moreno, who said Miller "should not serve in the House of Representatives" and "needs serious psychological help."
