A deal is being mediated to return the United States and Iran to the memorandum of understanding the two countries signed...

The US-Iran memorandum required Iran to fully open the strait "for 60 days only" and imposed no restrictions afterward. It collapsed over competing claims: Trump insisted the strait would be open, while Tehran believed the deal let it dictate ships' routes through the waterway.

Late Saturday, Trump said Iran had agreed to open the strait and announced he had called off a major attack, adding Israel was on board; Tehran denied any deal.

Per Channel 12, Israel was to join the attack, scrapped about 24 hours before launch. Israel learned of the cancellation only after Trump posted about it on social media.

A senior Israeli official said "President Trump left us in the fog" and "The feeling was that they left us behind," adding that lower alert levels take time to rebuild after a false alarm. Israel remains on high alert, believing Trump could reverse course quickly.

A US official said "Israel was supposed to be part of the plan."
