Live Updates: Rubio says progress made in Strait of Hormuz talks after Trump threatens 'decapitation'

Details are emerging about the cargo ship that was struck in the Strait of Hormuz overnight.

The Liberian-flagged vessel MV Minoan Pioneer was hit by an unknown projectile roughly 20 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman, according to Greek maritime risk firm Marisks, "causing a complete electrical blackout onboard."

Maritime sources told the Reuters news agency that the crew abandoned the vessel and one seafarer is missing.

"The projectile reportedly struck the engine room, while a fire broke out in the accommodation area. The crew are fighting the fire and require assistance, while the third engineer is reported missing," Reuters quoted British maritime risk management group Vanguard as saying separately.

Specifics about the projectile and those responsible remain unknown, said Marisks, but "the reported loss of power immediately following the impact raises concerns that the vessel may have sustained a direct hit rather than being affected solely by a nearby explosion."

Maritime tracked data consulted by CBS News show that the vessel was owned by a Greek firm, Modion Maritime Management SA. It was coming from Sohar in Oman and broadcasting that it was heading to Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, a short journey up the coast.

On Sunday, it turned off the transponder that enables it to be tracked.

"I think there is a chance we may have a deal today or tomorrow, in the strait and move towards a more normalized position in this conflict. And that's because their air force is wiped out, their Navy is wiped out, and a substantial portion of their missiles are wiped out. More importantly, their missile production capability is wiped out," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on CNBC.

President Trump told reporters Monday that he was giving Iran a "last chance" to sign a ceasefire deal, and called Tehran's leadership "unbelievably duplicitous."

He made the comments after President Trump again backed down on attacks against Iran to allow for negotiations, saying, "I want to give them every last chance before decapitation. ... We'll see what happens."
