Washington wildfires spread to 7,700-plus acres, 600 structures damaged or destroyed

A fast-moving wildfire in Spokane County, Washington, has burned several thousand acres, destroyed numerous homes and prompted hundreds of evacuations, according to local authorities on Sunday.

Together, the three fires are being called the Spokane Complex Fire, scorching over 7,700 acres as of Sunday night with 0% containment.

Officials say the fires have destroyed or damaged at least 600 structures, including homes, and about 4,000 structures were threatened by the Spokane Complex Fire.

The Old Trails Fire the Fairview Fire and the Autumn Lane Fire are burning in the Spokane area.

Washington National Guard Maj. Gen. Gent Welsh said the scenes around Spokane could be devastating. "When the sun rises, we are going to be in shock to see the scenes that come out of there," Welsh said.

All three fires ignited on Saturday afternoon. Ferguson declared a statewide state of emergency on Saturday due to drought conditions and issued a burn ban until the end of September.
