Who is Chad Williams? What we know about suspected shooter at Twin Falls In-N-Out

TWIN FALLS, Idaho — Police have identified the suspect in a mass shooting at an In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho. Authorities said Chad Williams, 24, opened fire Saturday afternoon, killing three people and injuring at least seven others. Williams died by self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. In a Sunday afternoon press conference, Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said Williams acted alone. Two other people — an off-duty state trooper and an armed citizen — "actively engaged" Williams "by returning gunfire towards him." Hicks said authorities believe the pair helped drive Williams from the scene "preventing further casualties." In the news conference, Hicks urged the public to not spread misinformation. He specifically cited another name circulating on social media. "This information is absolutely false," Hicks said. "This gentleman has no involvement in this incident whatsoever." Hicks also said the shooter was not a member of a fire department. "Based on the best information that we have at this time, we are confident that Mr. Williams acted alone," Hicks said. Three people were killed, and seven others were injured, Hicks said. Two patients were treated and released. Three were in stable condition and two were in critical condition, Hicks said. None of the victims have been identified yet by police, though the CEO of In-N-Out confirmed via a statement that an unnamed employee was among the three dead. Williams died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Hicks said. The motivation behind the shooting remains under investigation. The Williams family is cooperating with police, Hicks said in the press conference. "Their hearts are also broken at this time," Hicks said.
