Emily Moreno files restraining order against ex-husband Rep. Max Miller

Emily Moreno, daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), filed a restraining order Thursday against her ex-husband, Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The filing alleges Miller grabbed her lawyer, Andrew Zashin, during an encounter. In court documents, Moreno stated: "Plaintiff physically touched my counsel without consent" and instructed Miller to "Get your hands off of him." The restraining order represents the latest development in an acrimonious legal battle between the former couple. Miller has sued Moreno and Zashin for defamation over domestic abuse allegations, which Moreno and her legal team moved to dismiss under a new Ohio statute protecting free speech on public concerns. Miller denies all allegations against him. The couple is also engaged in a custody dispute over their 2-year-old daughter. A judge this week dismissed Miller's domestic violence case against his ex-wife. According to the New York Times, Moreno claims Miller "scalded her chest and stomach by throwing hot water from a skillet at her body; held a gun to her head; pushed her against a wall and hit her head; and fractured their daughter's collarbone and bruised her shoulder." Democratic representatives have called for a House ethics investigation. Miller, running for reelection in Ohio's 7th District, faces criticism from both sides of the aisle, with former Rep. George Santos urging him to "step aside and go deal with this in private."
