Bomb kills three and wounds 21 at central Moscow restaurant

Three people were killed and 21 injured after an improvised explosive device detonated at an upscale restaurant in central Moscow on Saturday night, Bloomberg reported, citing Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee.

The explosion occurred at 7:55 p.m. local time inside the Balzi Rossi Italian restaurant on Kudrinskaya Square.

Authorities said an unidentified woman attempted to enter the restaurant carrying an explosive device concealed inside a box. She reportedly presented herself as making a delivery to guests.

A security guard tried to stop the woman from entering before the device exploded. The guard, the suspected carrier and a restaurant customer were killed.

Investigators have opened a criminal case under Russia's law covering terrorist acts.

Authorities have not identified the intended target or disclosed a possible motive. No individual or organisation has claimed responsibility.
