Trump says his Board of Peace reached deal to disarm Hamas in Gaza

The Washington Times · back to the audit
President Trump said Thursday that Middle East mediators reached an agreement to disarm Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that launched a deadly attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. U.S. officials said they hope to see progress in implementing the deal within a month or two. They expect Israel to agree to the terms because it mirrors a previous Trump plan to which the Israeli side consented. If Israel does not comply with the terms, 'obviously President Trump will be very, very disappointed,' an official said, adding: 'This is not something [the Israelis] want to escalate as an issue right now.' Hamas was reluctant to decommission its weapons and secret tunnels, fearing Israel would not follow through on its commitments, the officials said.
