Iran's army says it launched an attack on US assets at Bahrain's Sheikh Isa airbase, according to state media. US Senate Republicans have blocked an effort to limit President Donald Trump's ability to continue military action against Iran. The measure would have required Trump to end US hostilities unless it was authorised by Congress. The Senate voted 50-49 against advancing the measure. Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, said the strait would stay closed if Oman rejects Iran's counterproposal. Sultan Barakat, professor of public policy at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, weighed in on Iran's rejection of Oman's plan to manage shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. "I think it was a mistake to reject it outright," Barakat said. "They should have taken their time and used it as an opportunity to deepen negotiations with Oman."
