Trump returns to White House Correspondents' Dinner: Live updates

President Donald Trump poked fun at his speechwriter during the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Friday after one of his jokes fell flat with the audience. Trump quipped that politicians need term limits because they eventually 'can't even go up the stairs' to meet their wives, but the line drew little laughter from the crowd. 'As I said three months ago, the show must go on,' Trump told the crowd. 'We were backstage and we both wanted to just have it go on. Whether it was 2:00, 3:00 in the morning, it didn't matter. But in the end it made more sense to do it the way we're doing it.' 'I want to save your ratings,' Trump told the crowd. 'I'm pleased to announce my intention to run for a fourth term as president of the United States.' Trump then donned his signature red hat emblazoned with 'Trump 2028' and continued the bit. 'It should be easy,' he said. 'I'm getting very good at running for president now.' 'I want you all to know that Bobby Kennedy, who's right here, personally ran over the cow with his car. And he cut it up and he brought it here for you to eat tonight.' 'There is no better example of that than Officer Victor Gonzales,' Trump said. 'So to Officer Gonzales, Secret Service, Metropolitan Police, law enforcement generally, and even all of the military surrounding us in the room tonight, we salute you and we thank you with all of our hearts.' 'In this country we believe in freedom of speech, we settle our differences not with bullets but with open and vigorous debate, and no deranged loser with a gun will ever change that. We can't let that ever happen,' Trump said.
