Venezuela Advances Recovery Efforts One Month After Devastating Earthquakes

July 24 marks one month since two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 shook Venezuela, leaving a trail of destruction in Caracas and the states of La Guaira, Carabobo, Miranda, Aragua and Falcon. Collective action proved decisive in the first hours after the earthquakes, as residents of areas such as Catia La Mar and Caraballeda organized independently to rescue people, removing debris with basic tools.

So far, authorities have recorded 5,398 deaths, 16,740 injuries and thousands of people still missing beneath the rubble. Over the past month, however, nearly 6,500 people have been rescued alive.

One month after the tragedy, the administration led by Acting President Delcy Rodriguez has already delivered the first 200 apartments to affected families. Authorities expect to deliver 4,000 homes by December and provide 10,000 housing solutions in 2027.

The Venezuelan government remains actively assisting more than 128,000 affected families. Currently, 23,122 people are living in the 107 temporary camps.

A total of 190 buildings were completely destroyed and 856 suffered significant damage across the affected states. The government has mobilized 30,989 emergency personnel, 31,745 volunteers, and 2,278 international rescuers.

However, the reconstruction task remains enormous. International organizations have provided aid, but the scale of the destruction is unprecedented in Venezuela's modern history.
