Measles Cases Hit Ominous New High

The Daily Beast · back to the audit
The number of measles cases in the U.S. this year has surpassed last year's total, with 2,318 confirmed cases putting 2026 on track to be the worst for measles since at least 1991, when there were 9,643 cases. Last year saw 2,289 cases, already the highest level in more than 30 years. The disease was declared eliminated in 2000, but a rise in vaccine skepticism — including from senior Trump administration figures — has driven outbreaks across the country. According to the CDC data, 93% of those infected this year were unvaccinated or of unknown vaccination status. Cases have been confirmed in 43 states and Washington, D.C.
