A teenager has pleaded guilty to all 55 counts in a deadly shooting nearly two years ago at Apalachee High School in Georgia. Colt Gray, 16, entered the plea on Friday without having reached a deal with prosecutors. He had previously pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the Sept. 4, 2024, shooting at the high school roughly 45 miles northeast of Atlanta, which killed two students and two teachers and wounded several others. Before accepting the plea, Barrow County Superior Court Judge Nicholas Primm questioned Gray to confirm he understood the consequences and was pleading voluntarily. Gray responded 'Yes, your honor' to each question. Because he pleaded guilty to murder, Gray faces a mandatory minimum of life in prison, with the judge to decide parole eligibility. Victim family members then testified about their losses. Gray's trial had been scheduled for mid-October in Columbia County after a venue change. His father, Colin Gray, was convicted by a jury in March on charges including second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter for giving his son the assault-style rifle used in the attack, and is scheduled for sentencing next week. The victims were teachers Richard 'Ricky' Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53, and students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14. Another teacher and eight students were wounded, seven by gunfire. Gray, 14 at the time of the shooting, was charged as an adult with 55 counts including four counts of murder and 25 counts of aggravated assault. Investigators said he brought the rifle onto a school bus with its barrel wrapped in poster board, left his second-period class, and emerged from a bathroom to open fire in a hallway and classroom. Investigators testified Gray left a notebook with step-by-step plans, estimating he could kill up to 26 people and wound 13 others. Deputies had interviewed Gray and his father in May 2023 about an online threat, which Colt denied. A shrine to Nikolas Cruz (the 2018 Parkland shooter) was found in his bedroom, prosecutors said.
