'He Won't Leave': Critics Rip 'Narcissist' Trump For Crashing World Cup Trophy Moment

HuffPost · back to the audit
President Donald Trump is being accused on social media of trying to hijack Spain's big moment as the team hoisted the World Cup trophy after their 1-0 victory over Argentina on Sunday.

Trump was on hand to present the trophy, but he didn't leave the stage right away.

Instead, he stood among the players, clapping as they hoisted the trophy and began their celebration.

Trump pulled a similar stunt at the FIFA Club World Cup championship last summer, standing with Chelsea as they hoisted the trophy.

In the Chelsea image, FIFA President Gianni Infantino can be seen trying to get Trump's attention from the side, but without much success.

Infantino had slightly better luck on Sunday, eventually getting the president to move along and leave the stage so the players could celebrate and pose for pics with the trophy.

Trump was booed lustily by fans in attendance on Sunday -- and jeered online as critics accused him of trying to make the trophy-hoisting moment all about himself.
