Trump Rejects Mamdani's Threat to Arrest 'War Criminal' Netanyahu

President Donald Trump has rejected New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdami's threat to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should he visit the city later this year.

'Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America,' Trump responded in a post on Truth Social Monday.

'The only ones that should be arrested are the people that led Iran into this unprecedented SPIRAL OF DEATH AND DESTRUCTION, something that should have been dealt with years ago, by previous Presidents!'

Trump's response follows accusations from U.S. Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz that Mamdani engaged in 'pure political theater' regarding Netanyahu's potential arrest during the UN General Assembly in September. Mamdani, elected on a platform to enforce an International Criminal Court warrant against Netanyahu, told the New York Times he was in 'active conversation' with city legal offices about arrest possibilities. Waltz argued the arrest would be legally impossible, citing that the U.S. never ratified the Rome Statute establishing the ICC, head-of-state immunity protections, and the UN Headquarters Agreement shielding diplomatic officials. The ICC warrant stems from November 2024, following investigations into the Gaza military campaign, with judges finding 'reasonable grounds to believe' Netanyahu bore responsibility for alleged war crimes including starvation tactics and attacks on civilians.

'Whatever the law allows me to do in New York City, that's what we will do, but we won't be writing our own laws to that end.'
