Anti-ICE Army veteran set fire near federal building in New York City, officials say
A man suspected of protesting Immigration and Customs Enforcement was arrested Monday after lighting a fire outside a federal building in Manhattan that houses ICE's New York field office, injuring two federal employees and one civilian, according to law enforcement.
FBI Assistant Director James Barnacle called him "an anti-American, anti-government extremist."
Arrabaca poured gasoline on the ground outside the federal plaza and lit it on fire using a firework.
The investigation is being conducted by the FBI and the New York Police Department, in tandem with the New York Joint Terrorism Task Force.
He carried "anti-ICE literature" and had two airsoft rifles, two axes, a machete and multiple fixed-blade knives.
A 43-year-old man identified as U.S. Army veteran Andrew Arrabaca was taken into custody. Three people were injured — two federal employees and one civilian.
