US military confirms two soldiers killed, one missing in Iranian attacks in Jordan

Press TV (Iranian state media) · back to the audit
The US military has confirmed the deaths of at least two soldiers in Iranian attacks targeting US assets in the West Asia region.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a Saturday statement on its X account that the two military personnel had been killed during Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks targeting US-controlled targets in Jordan on July 17.

CENTCOM said one more soldier has been missing following the Iranian attacks.

The exchange of fire began after the US violated the terms of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) it had signed with Iran last month, which was aimed at permanently ending its joint war of aggression with Israel against the country.

Iranian authorities say the US started to violate a key article of the MoU which entitles Iran to the right to regulate transit via the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway in the Persian Gulf which is responsible for a fifth of global oil demand.

CENTCOM said in its statement that Iranian attacks on its assets in Jordan had also injured four soldiers, who were treated and discharged from hospitals in the Arab country.

It said several others had suffered minor injuries, while giving no information about potential casualties among the ranks of "partner forces" that helped the US military fend off Iranian attacks.
