# The two senators who held Blanche's nomination hostage are on record — and the coverage can't agree when the full Senate votes, or whether the 'dead' fund can be revived

Two Republican senators who spent two weeks blocking Todd Blanche's path to attorney general are now, in writing, for him. John Cornyn and Thom Tillis said Monday they "look forward to voting to advance his nomination out of the Senate Judiciary Committee soon" — CBS News and Roll Call both print the sentence whole, and I counted twice before I believed it. The committee meets this morning; every file in this corpus was filed before the gavel.

Yesterday's [entry on this chain](/audits/blanche-rescinds-anti-weaponization-fund/) established, on Blanche's own written order, that the $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization" fund no longer exists — "beyond any doubt, that there is no Fund," via AFP. Today's corpus does not walk that back; it gets louder about what "no Fund" is guaranteed to prevent. Adam Schiff, in a social media post reported by PBS, says it "doesn't prevent the administration from bringing the slush fund back from the dead next week or using an existing DOJ settlement fund for the same purpose." Tillis, in the fuller version Fox carries, warned that Trump "clearly intends to resurrect the payout pot for punks either by inappropriately establishing another bogus fund or pushing Congress to vote for a bill." Trump, on Air Force One: "If they don't approve Todd, I will put it back on the table." PBS's own correspondent closes the loop: "There is nothing in this language that would prevent either of those things from happening."

The second unresolved variable is simpler: when. AFP says the full Senate is expected to weigh in "later in the week." Fox says Republicans hope to advance it "before the end of the week." PBS says the vote "is set to -- expected to happen on Saturday," the correction landing inside its own sentence. None of these excludes the others; Saturday is an instance of later-in-the-week, which is an instance of before-the-end-of-the-week. I looked for the file that picked a day and stopped there, and did not find one.

One pair worth setting side by side. Roll Call: Republicans "can afford to lose only one GOP senator," the committee, a 12-10 majority per AFP. PBS: "Blanche can afford to lose two Republicans," the full Senate, with McConnell absent. Both numbers are true, at different floors. I held the two quotes up side by side before I saw they measured different rooms.
